Dave Barrickman of Wildflower Ridge Honey holds a perfect frame of honey from one of his hives.

Formerly known as National Honey Bee Awareness Day, this event was started in 2009 by a small group of beekeepers who petitioned for and obtained a formal proclamation from the USDA honoring honey bees and beekeeping.

This year’s National Honey Bee Day (also recognized globally) will be celebrated on Saturday, August 19th. The goals are to promote beekeeping, educate the public about honey bees and beekeeping, and make the public aware of environmental concerns affecting honey bees.

Stop by the Wildflower Ridge Honey booth at the Market this Saturday to thank Dave for his work with and protection of the honeybees. And thank the bees for all their hard work, not only making honey, but pollinating many of our favorite fruits, vegetables, and legumes.

Check out to learn about, celebrate, and see all the ways you can help the bees!
