Many of you will remember Gene Wild of Wild’s Apple Farm from the Market. His kindness, generosity, quiet smile, and gentle demeanor will be greatly missed by all of us who knew him. The following is his obituary which appeared in the Indianapolis Star on Sunday.

Gene Muriel Wild age 90, of Zionsville, passed away April 6, 2017. He was born October 15, 1926 to the late Homer and Marion (West) Wild. Gene proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He graduated from Iowa State University, where he received his Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. degrees and was employed as a Chemist at Eli Lilly and Company for 37 years, retiring in 1989. Gene was a faithful member of Midtown Church at 56th & Broadway and was a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Legion and the Fruit & Nut Growers Association.

Gene is survived by daughters, Carolyn J. Wild, Rita M. Walsh (Bill), Susan J. Reimer (Ron); sisters, Winona Webb, Lois Johnson; brother, Lynn Wild; seven grandsons and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Jane (Gilbert) Wild, and son, Rodney B. Wild.
