From a simple folk song to a snappy gypsy jazz tune to a wandering improvisational reverie, Troika brings the diverse landscape of Eastern European folk music to life for American audiences. The heart of Troika’s sound is the dynamic interplay between Sarah Skreko’s fiddle and Dianna Davis’ clarinet, driven by the punchy rhythms of Mario Joven’s guitar and Adam Riviere’s percussion. But each member of the band plays several instruments, so be sure to watch for accordion, foot percussion, tambourine, or even an appearance from “Darlene” the musical saw!
Vocalists Dianna and Mario sing in Russian, Macedonian, Slovenian, and English. Troika also celebrates the Balkan dance tradition; the wild rhythms of their dance tunes are unlike anything else this side of the Carpathians!
As always, the entertainment is provided at no cost to the BRFM. If you like what you hear, please consider purchasing a CD and/or leaving a tip.
