State Representatives Ed DeLaney and Gregory W. Porter (both D-Indianapolis) will distribute free tree seedlings starting at 9 a.m. this Saturday, May 3, at the Broad Ripple Farmers Market.
DeLaney and Porter will hand out 200 tree seedlings, including tulip tree and red dogwood seedlings. All materials will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
“As a wise man once said, ‘The planting of a tree is a gift you can make for posterity at almost no cost and with almost no trouble,’” DeLaney said.
“We particularly encourage families to come to the Broad Ripple Farmers Market on May 3, pick up a seedling or two, and make an activity of planting it in the ground together,” he added. “It will give them a chance to reflect on the saying of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt: ‘Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people.’”
“One of the great pleasures of my job each spring is the chance to distribute these seedlings, which are provided to each state lawmaker by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR),” Porter said.
