Broccoli growing at the farm in Westfield last summer.

Back in February 2013 we told you about the Fields family being forced to move their farm operation from Westfield to a new location, due to an upgrade of US 31. They waited all last summer and fall with no final settlement. I contacted Rodney Fields last week to get an update on the situation.

“Things have been progressing with the farm move since we last spoke. We’ve finalized our land situation with the state about a month ago and are in the process of moving our operation to the new farm in Anderson; but still have a few things we’re planting at the farm in Westfield this season.  It’s one thing to move belongings from a house — quite another to move farm equipment, tear down/put back up greenhouses, clean out farm buildings, etc.  There will be some sad days to come, leaving a farm that’s been in our family for generations, but looking forward to starting fresh with new buildings, packing houses and more.”

Check their facebook page for further updates and photos of the new farm; and as the season goes forward, what they will be bringing to the Market!
