If you checked the Vendor Map for this week you might have noticed that Tom Wood Subaru has joined the party.  It turns out that Tom Wood Subaru and Broad Ripple Village have a lot in common – abiding respect for the environment and wildlife, a big heart for dogs, and a deep affection for their loyal customer following.  It also turns out that the profile of that customer following is not unlike the profile of residents and fans of Broad Ripple Village – smart, eclectic, outdoorsy, foodies, and fun.  So when Tom Wood Subaru approached the Broad Ripple Village Association about underwriting opportunities, it was sort of a natural.

Many of us know the corporate Subaru legacy in Indiana.  Their Lafayette plant, which is running at full capacity (with plans for expansion), is a zero landfill operation.  Their entire production process creates less than one trash bag full of waste for the year!  Tom Wood committed to following that lead in becoming the first auto dealership in Indiana to achieve LEED Certification and will feature all LED lights, rooftop rainwater harvesting for all non-potable water, and solar panels.

So, we think Subaru is a good fit for Broad Ripple Village and for BRFM.  They’ll be joining us four times this summer – this Saturday will be their first.  They will use their time at the Market to talk about their corporate priorities, their plans for the new facility, and other ways that they support the communities they serve.  Their spokesperson for these appearances will be Bart Schlosser’s 84 year old mom, Bev.  Bart is the Marketing Director for Tom Wood Subaru, and his mom loves Subaru!  She also loves greyhounds and is active in greyhound rescue.

In addition to Bev, the highlight of this week’s visit to the Market is a guest appearance by Tom Wood’s newly acquired Subaru 360.  The 360 was one of the first models built by Subaru in 1970 – it gets 65 mpg, has a 2 gallon gas tank, and 25 horsepower.  They plan to showcase it in their new facility. Please stop by and welcome Bart and his mom to BRFM, and check out the 360! You can find out more about the Subaru of America commitment to the environment here.
