Some of you may remember our guest recipe editors from last summer, “A Couple Cooks” Sonja and Alex, who did peach recipes for the newsletter last August and apple recipes last September. Their blog is an amazing collection of their mouth-watering recipes and gorgeous photographs. They have not done anything for the newsletter this season, but then they have been extremely busy with another project!
Alex and Sonja visited Cambodia in March of this year to learn about the Culinary Training Center and Green Mango Cafe & Bakery, programs run by the Center for Global Impact. The programs are designed to benefit at-risk young women in Cambodia by providing vocational cooking and restaurant skills. They met the young women who work there and collected recipes for the book. Since that time, they’ve been adapting recipes, photographing, writing, editing, designing, and getting feedback from their volunteer recipe testers.
The finished book is based on the menu at the Green Mango Cafe & Bakery, so the recipes are in the style of what they serve – Mexican, American, French, and Italian – as well as Cambodian! The book is set to debut on October 1, and they are very excited about it. All proceeds from sales will go to programs run by the Center for Global Impact in Cambodia. Go to their website for more information on the cookbook, and their adventure in Cambodia. Their photography is breathtaking!
