Grandpa Elmer Whipker, Sr., started the family farm in Azalia, Indiana. In 1954, Bennie (Keith’s dad) got in the business, and now Keith is continuing the tradition. They have been a part of the BRFM since the days of the Broad Ripple Brewpub location. Keith followed up on an idea to build on their roadside stand (originally located on SR 7 before US 37 was put in – then moved to US 37) by checking out farmers markets. It was Keith’s idea to try the BRFM. His mom and dad weren’t too sure about it, but after one market when Keith couldn’t be there, they were the ones who did every market from then on out.
Due to his parent’s health issues, Keith is keeping Whipker Farm a part of our market. Family friend, Martha Tavel, helps out and does the kettle corn. Whipker offers tomatoes, sweet corn, watermelon, eggplant, zucchini, potatoes, onions, peppers in season now. The fall will bring pumpkins and gourds.
